I know of three Wednesday Jams in central Pinellas:
#1. Kahuna's Grill. out on Gandy Blvd opposite the dog track. 7:30 -11:P.M. Hosted by Steve Grant, he starts as an acoustic single for about 1/2 hour, then they crank it up. They do an interesting mix including some country, then he brings up the guests and they get busy. There's a drum set and full P.A. There are usually a couple of other amps. but throw yours in the car just to be sure.
#2. Dave's Aqua Lounge, just East of the dog track. Hosted by Cannon Quinn. Dave has had this jam going for at least 8 years that I know of. Cannon is a guitar man par excellence. He seems to know every song written in the last 40 years. I co-hosted a jam with him and Gary Bush at Grassflats a few years ago and he never ceased to amaze me with the extent of his "book". This is a blues and rock jam. Dave's is known as a home for the blues so get ready for for great music from classic rock to todays pop.
#3. At O'Boobigan's on Ulmerton Rd just East of Rt 19. This jam is hosted by Jerry Chase. What can I say. Jerry is an excellent showman who attracts a bunch of really good blues men. They start at 8:P.M. and go till midnight. The few times that I got there, he had a couple of kickin' horn players in addition to the usual assortment of guitar slingers, bass men and harp players. This jam is worth the trip just for the show alone.
Remember that if we, the musicians don't go out and support the jam sessions, they'll go away and the only place left to recruit new band mates is here, or (ugh) that "List" place.
See ya out there.
